Tony Montana’s Beretta cheetah was originally built in late 1981 with the correct AH date code on the right hand side of the lower frame. The gun when new was rented to Universal Pictures from Stembridge gun, the most historic live fire gun supplier in the world.
The Beretta was officially provided to Universal on November 12th of 1982 up until May 9th of 1983. The serial number on the left side of the lower is D 87016 W. The magazine has been permanently altered to only hold 9 rounds.
A custom false suppressor was built that is non-functioning due to its smaller interior barrel diameter. The attachment of the false suppressor also allowed for a second level of protection, making sure that only blank rounds were fired. The Beretta is live fire, but becomes inoperable for live ammunition when the false suppressor is attached.
The Beretta was returned from Universal to Stembridge and was kept in their archive for over two decades. The Beretta was sold to a broker and immediately picked up by a private collector. Since then, it has been in the same private collection in the identical condition as to when it was released from Stembridge.
